#LailaMajnu is for those who think more from the heart.

Set in the scenic locales of Kashmir, #Laila Majnu is about the undying love between #Laila (Tripti Dimri) and #Qais (Avinash Tiwary), who belong to two warring families. It's done to death premise but what works in the favour of the film is the execution by #SajidAli, its performances, music and stunning cinematography. The film starts off of slow but picks up the pace once we are introduced to our Majnu. From there on, the film keeps you engrossed completely. And the interval point is powerful. The second half starts on an uneven note thanks to some loopholes in the writing but its the performance by Avinash Tiwary complimented by music that takes the film to another level.#TriptiDimri, who was last seen Poster Boys in a small role, acts well. She looks beautiful and plays her part quite perfectly. However, her role loses its sheen in the second half. But it's #AvinashTiwary as Qais/Majnu who hit the ball out of the park. The film picks up the pace when he enters the narrative and it's his powerful performance that lifts the middling second half and takes it to another level. He was fine in Tu Hai Mera Sunday and he is just phenomenal here. It won't be wrong to call him the life of this film. He has great screen presence. Looking forward to his future films. Among the supporting cast, it is #SumitKaul as evil Ibban and Qais' friend played by actor #Zaid, who leave a mark.
In fact, the choice of actors in the film is as authentic as it gets. Almost all the actors look Kashmiri. Casting director #MukeshChhabra has done a great job.The music of the film is one of the best I have heard in recent times. It gels well with the proceedings of the film.Kudos to composers #NiladriKumar, #JoiBarua and Alif.Ali brothers should be applauded for choosing Kashmir as their film's backdrop. How I wish more films are shot there. Laila Majnu is technically perfect and that adds value to the film.
And finally, talking about the direction, Sajid Ali makes a confident debut. The way he handled intense scenes and the sometimes even the faltering narrative is applaud-worthy. I liked the fact that they changed the second half of the film for its own good and gave us something which is more relevant to current times. The film focuses on depression which leads to mental illness.
And also the fact that it doesn't go the tried and tested way and changes its course in the second half.On the downside though, there are two major problems with the film, firstly, the editing. And secondly the initial portions of the second half. Again, mild SPOILERS ahead. I understand she was asked to wait until the mourning period but who stopped them from being in touch via mobile phone.
Overall, the movie wins due to the performance of its lead cast, especially Avinash Tiwary. He just stole the show. The music. The stunning locales of Kashmir and Sajid Ali's deft direction. As Imtiaz Ali said before the release of the film, Laila Majnu is for those who think more from the heart and less from the brain.
